Pic: Richard Wagner, Sherlock Holmes and Oscar Wilde plush dolls

These dolls are at the shop at the State Library of Queensland. I was reading on http://www.tvtropes.com that this well-known image of Sherlock Holmes is a big mistake: Holmes was a stylish gentleman and these are outdoor clothes. The article said he would never wear clothes like this in London, it would have looked as silly as someone wearing high-visibility orange work gear to a formal black-tie dinner today.

pic: people sitting outside an open Ric's bar.

The news that Ric's bar in Fortitude Valley has been sold to the owners of RG's seems to have sparked rumours that Ric's has closed down. I have no idea what the new owners' plans are, but tonight it remains open.

Interview with Allan Allaway about abuse in Australian orphanges

(download)

This is an interview with Allan Allaway, Vice-Chairman of the Alliance for Forgotten Australians about the Federal Government's apology to children abused in orphanges and other institutions in Australia from the 1930s to the 1970s. The interview was done for 4ZZZ-FM Radio News in Brisbane, Australia, where I'm a volunteer. 4ZZZ-FM can be heard on 102.1FM in Brisbane, or via webstreaming from their website.

Pix: Cider ad with only URL pointing to Facebook

Interesting, Toohey's new cider ad has a Facebook URL. Guess it goes to their fan page. Is this an Australian first, using a FB URL instead of one owned by the company?

Yao Jui-chung's "Everything will fall into ruin"

These cameraphone pix really don't show the scale of this work: 48 photos in 3 rows. The entire work must be 3m high and 10 or 15m wide. The artist is from Taiwan.

Pix of dresses from the Easton Pearson exhibition at GoMA - closes tomorrow

These pictures are from an exhibition of dresses from Brisbane fashion house Easton Pearson, at the Gallery of Modern Art at Southbank, near the State Library. Non-flash photography is ok (how rare is that in an art gallery?) and tomorrow, Sunday November 8 2009, is the last day.
